The Code for Sustainable Homes (CfSH) is
the official Communities and Local
Government (CLG) assessment method
for measuring the sustainability of new
Alongside mandatory requirements for
reduced energy consumption, the Code
considers the holistic environmental
impact of new homes.
A Code for Sustainable Homes assessment helps a developer or self-builder to demonstrate the sustainability of their dwelling and is frequently required by the Local Authority to prove that new homes meet the sustainability criteria of the Planning Policy.
Assessments against the Code are especially important for developments of social housing as a Code rating of at least Level 4 is required for eligability to Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) funding.
At CHB Sustainability we strive to make our assessments as straight-forward as possible for the design team and main contractor. We use an online project tracker to ensure that project specific and up-to-date information on the Code for Sustainable Homes requirements, evidence and progress are available at anytime from pre-assessment through the design and construction phases to completion.
Our experience allows us to provide detailed Code for Sustainable Homes advice and Code workshops to ensure that all members of the design team understand the assessment and its impact on the project from the outset. We have found that this approach can make a huge difference in facilitating a smooth and hassle free Code for Sustainable Homes assessment.
